This got me thinking. If design and content are constantly changing and influencing and redefining one another, it is possible to create a contemporary design that will remain timeless? Or will it all become out date and forgotten. I think back to works done by artists before the age of computers, greats such as da Vinci, Warhol, or Monet. Will any lasting work come from our generation? Our century?

what an interesting question. I think it is impossible to tell until time passes. Some pieces just have that mysterious quality of excellence, sass or sheer inovativeness that propels them to a pedistool for ever. Like Warhol's pieces, they were loved and hated and caused such a rucus in the own time, but these images are still used in our world today. maybe in 50 years we'll see what we think is modern and see if these design masters still fit ;)
I agree with Caroline. Something that is liked today has a very large chance of getting ridiculed in the future. I think of songs that were really popular for a while and now when played the channel gets changed, ex: "Who let the Dogs Out" haha, first one that popped in my head!
I think it is possible to create timeless designs, but in order to do that I think that the past has to be taken into consideration, such as in 50 years will it still be visually pleasing and have meaning or will it just get lost in the clutter or not relate to life now.
